Before wearing:
-Brush gently with a slicker or bristle brush, avoiding detailed spots like mouth and eyes.
-Wear a balaclava.
-Consider investing in moisture wicking clothing for fullsuits.
After wearing:
-Air out head by leaving it upside down in a well ventilated area for a couple hours.
-Use fursuit spray to disinfect the suit by spritzing the inside of the head after every use (recipe below).
Washing:
-Heads, floor-dragger tails, and feet can be spot cleaned with gentle soap and water using a sponge or soft bristle brush. A Little Green Bissell Carpet Cleaner is a handy tool as well. Avoid fully submerging heads and feet.
Let air dry or use an area fan.
-Handpaws, small tails, and bodysuits can be machine washed cold on gentle settings.
Turn bodysuits inside out before washing.
Be sure to remove any foam padding from a bodysuit before washing.
-NOTE: if your bodysuit has attached feet with foam bottoms, instead of machine washing, hand wash in a tub of cold water with gentle soap.
Air dry or use an area fan.
-DO NOT dry suit parts in a dryer with heat, as heat melts the fur and leaves it clumpy and matted.
Instead, tumble dry on gentle with no heat, checking it every couple minutes, or air dry, or use an area fan.
Be sure your suit is completely dry before storing it to avoid mold growth.
(NOTE: all dryers are different. If you're worried about your dryer's gentle setting, better safe than sorry and use a fan.)
Fursuit Spray Recipe:
Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle
Add a few drops of skin-safe fragrance (optional)
Shake well
